On the 9th December 2020, Thinking Classroom Foundation jointly organized an education talk in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of Burma's National Day that marks the beginning of student-led protests against the British Education Law in 1920. Together with Dr. Thein Lwin of Thinking Classroom Foundation, Dr. Than Lwin Oo of University Teachers' Association, U Thura Soe of Basic Teachers' Union, Daw Shwe Sin Win of Migrant Teachers' Association, and Ko Ye Yint Phone Aung of Education College Students' Union participated in the talk as panelists. Dr. Arkar Moe Thu served as a moderator. Over 100 teachers and students participants participated in the live event and over 6,900 people watched the video record. Dr. Thein Lwin presented on the topic of educational freedom highlighting freedom of students, freedom of teachers, freedom of curriculum, freedom of thought and freedom of knowledge. He discussed about curriculum quality and competency based curriculum using an example of curriculum reform, 2016 in Finland. They all are secondary school teachers working at Church based schools run by Kachin Education Foundation.
TCF Chairperson participated in the online discussion on the topic of "How to Promote Human Rights at School and Non-Formal Education" together with Dr. Khine Khine Win, National Human Rights Commission of Myanmar and U Aung Zaw Htway, Equality Myanmar. The event was jointly organized by Equality Myanmar and Democratic Voice of Burma (DVB). The discussion was facilitated by Daw Toe Toe Myint of Equality Myanmar. The conference was attended by 300 participants on Zoom. The Zoom Application organized by TCF can accommodate only 300 persons. The participants who could not join the Zoom conference watched LIVE Show on TCF Facebook Page. There are 13,300+ viewers out of 57,781persons reached on "Lesson Planning for Critical Thinking" video at the time of 10:30 am (Thailand Time) on Tuesday, 24 November 2020.
The 300 participants on virtual conference include teachers from University Teacher Associations, Basis Education Teacher Unions, Education Colleague Student Unions, Burmese Migrant Teachers' Association, Monastery-based schools, Church-based schools and schools run by ethnic communities. Dr. Thein Lwin (TCF), Dr. Arkar Moe Thu (RC of UTAs), Dr. Thura Oo (RC of UTA) and U Min Min Htut (BEWU) led the discussions. The discussions focused on identifying educational crises in Myanmar including COVID-19 and civil war. The discussions found ways to overcome the crises in education. They suggested classroom practices and decentralisation of the decision-making in education.
